Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch! - Blue Note Essentials LP

Blue Note Essentials Series — 140-Gram Vinyl

In February 1964, Eric Dolphy assembled a formidable quintet — Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone, Richard Davis on bass, and Tony Williams on drums — to record his masterwork, Out to Lunch! at Rudy Van Gelder's studio. Dolphy possessed the revolutionary spirit of the avant-garde while keeping a foot planted firmly in swing, a rare balance the five original pieces here capture perfectly, from the offbeat swagger of "Hat and Beard" to the careening closer "Straight Up and Down."
