Recorded in Chicago and produced by Charles Stepney, Occasional Rain marked the start of Callier's extraordinary run of albums for Cadet Records, blending folk storytelling, jazz, soul, gospel, blues, and psychedelia into a singular sound. Minnie Riperton, Kitty Haywood, and Shirley Wahls provide harmonies throughout, with Stepney on organ and harpsichord alongside Lennie Pirani, Sydney Simms, and Rob Crowder, recorded at Chicago's Ter-Mar Studios.
